Francis Services, Inc. d/b/a Francis Torque Service and Torq/Lite, designed and manufactured the heavy duty, underwater hydraulic torque wrench used to remove the bolts from the leaking BP oilwell. This set the stage for the installation of the new cap which is holding back the oil.
In this narrated video the ROV (remotely operated vehicle) is trying to unbolt a flange on the old section of riser pipe left on the sea-floor. It looks like they may have a hydraulic fluid leak as the pressure on the gauge is decreasing each time they activate the cylinder. If you watch closely you can see the hydraulic pressure is being used to ratchet a bolt out. They have tried 3 or 4 different methods. A cutoff wheel would work better and quicker. We use them at work all the time. Don’t forget the gloves! Safety first eh!
In this clip the ROV (remotely operated vehicle) is trying what looks like a hydraulic ratchet wrench to unbolt the riser pipe at the flange. I would say they are practicing on this old piece of riser pipe no longer connected to the well so they have few errors when the do this with the new LMRP riser cap device they should be installing soon. It should have a hydraulic clamp big enought to fit the flange between the BOP (blowout preventer) and LMRP (lower marine riser pack).
In 2009, TORERO launched the new patented induction-type torque tester; this tester can test the shock wrenches, hydraulic set-twisting wrenches, clutches, power tools and servo-twisting tool sets, etc., for the production lines. This is a torque tester working in the most direct and cost-saving matter. Torque tester is with three modules. Torque wrench can make actual comparison in response of the different screw sizes. The screen can display eight kinds of units. The portable battery enable user to operate the tester at any place where no power supply is available. www.chudai.com.tw http
When using a torque wrench, set it to the proper adjustment, flip the lock back up and start torquing.
