The pre-set torque wrench is suitable for routine works like changing car tires and everywhere we use the same torque value. Each wrench has its factory preset and exactly defined maximum torque. The suitable wrenches can easily be found, since they differ in typical color for a certain torque. Available are two basic types of pre-set torque wrenches: torque wrench for cars (value area of torques from 90 to 130 Nm) and torque wrench for trucks (value area of torques from 400 to 600 Nm). Before use, choose the suitable torque wrench for the prescribed tightening torque and install the socket of a suitable dimension onto it. Then the socket is placed on the wheel bolt. Tighten the bolt until the “click” comes, indicating the achieved wanted torque. Then the bolt is tightened properly. No more tightening is needed after this.

The standard torque wrench can be a compact tool which differs from other wrenches in the sense that the wanted torque does not need to be preset. This tool is suitable for works where torque between 12 and 80 Nm is needed. The two-sided bit for the socket enables the tool to be used from the left as well as from the right side. Therefore the wrench is also suitable for work in tight and difficult-to-reach areas. The ergonomic rubber of the handle enables a better grip and easier work. The torque is spread continuously variable where the measuring mechanism simultaneously marks the momentary torque value, when we tighten a screw or nut. OK, I’ve been allowed a nice sum of money at work to spend on getting some standard tools in our department. I’m definitely interested in buying American (NOT made in Mexico, China, etc.). Looking for a set, preferably something with a manufacturer’s model number that I can easily search websites with. Standard hand-toolset, really — ratchets, wrenches, screwdrivers. But solid, meaty, durable, professional, not lame equipment. Would you recommend a brand? I’d prefer answers from professional in-the-field folks who know their stuff. Thanks!!

My biggest concern — as alluded to by Bill S. — is that Snap-On now states that "most" of their tools are made in the U.S. I was crestfallen to hear this, and started my quest for purely 100% American quality-manufactured hand tools. But if you all think I’m chasing a pink elephant, perhaps I’ll just go with Snap-On. Thanks to all of you for your input, I gratefully appreciate it!
I am putting together a mountain bike that I bought ( just getting into it). The directions say to use a torque wrench. Not all that knowledgeable about hand tools. Trying to get information before buying the wrench.
