How would I calibrate a Dial Torque Wrench? This is the Dial type with the round, glass enclosed face with a needle indicator. The indicator is on approx. 76 ft lbs, quite a ways off from zero. I’m hoping there is a way for me to calibrate it myself. I searched the net but couldn’t find an answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

FDA and NIOSH are alerting healthcare professionals that incorrect use of certain seals in oxygen regulators can result in fires and are recommending an important precaution to avoid such fires. FDA has received 12 reports in which regulators used with oxygen cylinders have burned or exploded, in some cases injuring personnel. FDA and NIOSH believe that improper use of gaskets or washers in these regulators was a major factor in causing the fires, although there may have been other contributing factors as well. Two types of washers, referred to as CGA 870 seals, are commonly used to create the seal where the cylinder valve and the regulator are connected. The type that is recommended by many regulator manufacturers is a metal-bound rubber sealing washer that is designed to be re-used many times. The other common type, often supplied free-of-charge with refilled oxygen cylinders, is a plastic crush gasket that’s intended to be used just once. The re-use of these plastic gaskets appears to be the cause of the problem. These gaskets require higher torque than the metal-bound rubber washers in order to seal the cylinder valve to the regulator, and they require more and more torque each time they’re re-used. It is important to understand that the connection between the cylinder valve and the regulator is designed to be hand-tightened. If the plastic gaskets are re-used, the need for more and more torque can require using a wrench or other tool, and this can deform the plastic …

I am trying to find a tool that can torque in the range of 0-25 ft.lbs. I want to be able to torque things that require say 11ft. lbs. All the torque wrenches I see are large and cumbersome for these lower torque applications, and their dials only start at 20 ft. lbs. So, I looked into torque screw drivers, but they’re measured in inch lbs. and only go up to 3 ft. lbs. How am I supposed to torque these in between applications?

Most high end torque wrenches only go up to like 800 ft/lbs max. Plus I don’t think they make a socket big enough to fit on the nut anyways. The blue print specifically says they want it at 4000 ft/lbs. I’m thinking you would need a wrench with like a 10 ft+ bar on it. Is there even a tool in existence or do you need like a special hydraulic machine? This is a test fixture for aerospace. Not sure of the specific application because its a government related job and they don’t supply us with the test parts.
